“Mostly I mix traditional and popular folk-music, sometimes I add chorus and cross-over styles to them as well. I avoid mixing classical with folk-music. Classical music will be played at Christmas-time or on other special occasions of the year. Enjoy the HRN music stream, music that you can listen to all day long!”

Folklore music insisted in traditional, modern folk and popular music forms like the Greek laiko tragoudi. These styles are mostly an artificial form of traditional music created in the last 100 years, or new forms with a very typical character that became already traditional, although it has been open to strange influences as well.

Classical music includes partly the folk-styles of distinct countries, most of all it is the expression of the single composers on very high artificial level.

Traditional music began with the Ancient Greek theatre music and developed over the Middle Ages music into the late 20th century. Two examples of this are the Bulgarian female-voice choirs and the compositions of Mikis Theodorakis in Greece, both relating to traditional music forms and only vaguely to the classical music of Schubert and Brahms.

Jazz remains one style of music that stands outside the mainstream, but allows - whenever it can boast Afro-American origins - very typical new expressions including traditional styles and playforms.

Klezmer music, was developed by Jewish people, who participated in local traditions especially in Eastern Europe and created thereby a new music form. Most of Klezmer music today is made in America.

Where is the music coming from?

The music of the stream is not only from the participating countries Poland, Slovenia, Hungary, Croatia, Bulgaria, Greece and Germany, but is also from the CADSES-countries, which are all countries between the Balticum and the South Balkan, including Eastern Italy.

The HRN music editor:

Christoph Roesler gained a well-founded knowledge on the diverse musical traditions of Europe during his studies in Musicology at the Liszt School of Music Weimar, Germany, and on his numerous trips across Europe. His expertise ranges from antique Greek traditions to modern fusions of popular formats which by no means refers to pop music.
