Worlds´ cultural heritage in flames - that was the title coming from Weimar at the beginning of september last year. All of a sudden, the Anna-Amalia library was burning. It was and remains a public research library for the history of art and literature in the period between 1750 and 1850. The library contained about a million books, including the world´s largest collection of books about Faust, comprising of 13 000 volumes. 50 000 thousand books were victims of the blaze. At least a bible from Martin Luther from the year 1534 could be saved.
Now the building is to be rennovated:
