Forming a Duo in Difficult Times

Two Bulgarian artists formed an impressive artistic duo showing an amazing combination between painting and sculpture. The sculptor Leda Starcheva and the painter Svetoslav Nedev have known each other for years but have never worked together.

They have had many one-person shows before starting a collaboration named "Elements". According to Svetoslav the elements are everywhere because everything in the material world is made of air, water, earth and fire or at

least contains some of these four elements. The accent in his artistic concept is on spontaneity while Leda puts emphasis on the contrast between "the uncontrollable state of chaos and the disciplined geometry of the world". "We are created by the elements", she claims.

Leda and Svetoslav have worked for three years in preparation of their joint exhibition.

In a society where art is in the periphery of the public interest both artists fight tooth and nail to stay on the surface. Svetlana Dicheva from the Bulgarian National Radio discovered that the duo is not at all dispirited.
